Dad and Son getting to know eachother

Dear Son,
Your mom and I are watching game one of the World Series. The Sox lead the Rockies two to nothing. I am so excited to be sharing this experience with you. You know based on these blog entries that I love baseball. I can't wait for you to tell me what it is that you like because I want to enjoy it with you. Thank-you for being our son.

Dear father of that dear expected son,

I LOVE your wanting to find out what your SON likes. This reminds me so much of what I'm reading in Richard Dawkins's THE GOD DELUSION about how abhorrent it is for children to be identified as "a Catholic child" or "a Muslim child," when it's their parents who are Catholics or Muslims and the children haven't had a chance to think about it yet. I can tell that your son is going to come into the world as a free agent, and I am delighted not only for HIS sake, but for the world's sake. We need many more such children born, and many, many fewer born with a religious label imposed on them with strict indoctrination to follow. Good on you.
