From PunkieDaddy

Hey Little Man,
Just wanted to update you. The Sox beat the Indians 9-2 and are headed to the World Series to play the Colorado Rockies. It was an exciting game in which the Sox completed a three game winning streak. They came back from a 3-1 deficit to win the series 4-3. This was a special series for me because the year your mother and I met was the year the Sox came back from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Yankees 4 games to 3. Therefore, your mother and I have decided that the Sox are our American League team. We hope to take you to a Boston Red Sox game someday. You can look forward to a Cubs game next summer with your mom and dad, your grandparents on my side (they say they're going to go by Lolly and Big G), and your cousins, Linda and Mike.

That's all for now. You are always in my heart.

Love, Dad

I went to Fenway and saw Pedro pitch against Chris Carpenter and the Cardinals in 2003. From the moment I walked into the stadium until the game began, I was snapping pictures and crying my eyes out. That ballpark is a temple.
Congratulations on your American League team. Good to know that there's no chance your boy will be a Yankees fan.

Your latest note to Son about watching baseball didn't remind me, but this one did, that after my grandson was born in 1993, I joined the Chapel Hill Toastmasters Club, and I dedicated to him a number of the speeches I gave as I worked my way through the basic Toastmasters manual to become a CTM (Competent Toastmaster). This was probably a pretty weird thing to do—certainly it was compared with your chatting with your son about baseball. My grandson is fourteen now, and I have no idea whether or not he has ever read the text of the speeches, which I sent to his parents for safekeeping against the day. In fact, I'd even forgotten to wonder whether he'd read them until I saw your baseball notes. <sigh>
